1. This four-hour adaptation is luscious, patient, and features a jaw-dropping proposal scene that all but shudders with swoony catharsis.

Slate magazine, on the Jane Eyre adaptations, talking about the BBC’s last adaptation in 2006, starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stevens. I agree with this writer’s assessment — the 2006 adaptation was the best. Even though much of the dialogue was modernized, it captured the essence of the novel and Ruth Wilson’s Jane Eyre was pitch perfect — exactly how I always imagined the character.

However, I haven’t seen Cary Fukunaga’s new version yet, so my opinion may change over the next month. I’ve heard so many good things, I’ll have to make time to drive to Atlanta to see it.

50 and 50 is a collective, curated project where fifty designers are invited to represent their state by illustrating its motto. a new piece will be posted every week day.

Though they’re created by different designers, the illustrations all use a consistent color scheme and style, and are an absolute pleasure to browse.
